The Fox and the Star

So for the last six months I have been living in a forest with a Fox. Here is preview of what I have been doing. And this time it's not just the cover but the words, the pictures and everything else. It is due to be published on the 27th August 2015 by Penguin Books. Fox is currently in Italy having a lovely time being wet proofed for the London Book Fair. I just hope he remembers to tell them that I want orange thread to sew the pages together.

Life

I am back at Penguin doing the day job and it's rather nice.

Clothbound Classic No 50

It is a big moment, I am pretty sure this proof is Clothbound number 50. It will be the last clothbound for 2014. I have been released from Penguin Press for the next six months doing things non cover design. Exciting to hit the big 50 before I go.

Pocket Classics

Work in progress lots to get right before being released. These little Pocket Classics are due to be published later this year, around November.

Madame Bovary

Big news for collectors. The Madame Bovary cloth classic that was part of the first series is reprinting and is due in the shops in August this year.

The joy of reading

‘That’s what I love about reading: one tiny thing will interest you in a book, and that tiny thing will lead you to another book, and another bit there will lead you on to a third book. It’s geometrically progressive.'

The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society, Mary Ann Shaffer & Annie Barrows

It's Nice That

It's Nice That asked me to show my top 5 publications of the moment and I broke the rules by choosing 6 . . .

Just Trade

A while ago I drew some animals for my friends at Just trade to make into brooches, earrings and necklaces. Just Trade are incredible, they make a real difference to people in the developing world. Click here to have a look at what they
get up to.

'We work collaboratively on the design of our products with the artisans who make them. By teaching the fundamentals of design, we give the artisans that we work with the tools to take an active part in the product development process, encouraging a sense of pride and ownership in their work.'

The animals I drew were then hand made in Quito, Ecudor by Olga and her family who are part of a nationwide group of World Fair Trade Organisation producers. They are hand carved from a single tagua nut, a seed from a type of Palm that grows in South American rainforests.

Really?!

Connected

I have been very quiet with news as I have been moving every book I own to a new place to live. But before I started the packing process Reading University came to visit and do an article on me for their Alumni magazine Connected. Oh how I miss my old bookshelves.

Lisa Bu: How books can open your mind

Lisa is the first TED staffer ever to be invited to speak on the mainstage at the TED Conference. I was really moved when I listened to her talk about her love of books.
